Since graduate school, my art has consisted of my immediate surroundings (people and things) and recognizing the importance of these relationships. Self-portraits come in many forms including face and body, inside and out, and portraits of others. I am interested in documenting moments, people, and self because they reveal the correlation between different parts of my life.

My dog paintings began as documentation of my own sweet Stanley, but I believe now that pet portraits are another aspect of painting the figure - capturing the soul and personality of the person or animal, and have been surprised at my own ability to bring that out in pets other than my own.

I use acrylic paints and I enjoy returning to black and white images using charcoal and
block printing. I have been influenced by artists such as Alice Neel, David Hockney, Ida Applebroog,  and Fay Jones.
